Art & Beauty Hardcover Book

Fantagraphics compiled the three Art & Beauty comics into one hardcover book and released it this year. They did a great job with the book, but NO ONE seems to promote Crumb's Art & Beauty comics (or books) properly. They do NOT communicate what the gist of Crumb's satire is about. Yes, the drawings are marvelous and incredible, but the writing is also fantastic, especially when you understand what he's satirizing. 

In the late 1940's and early 50's, a lot of "photography" magazines were sold in the magazine section. They were principally photographs of naked ladies presented as "art" and "photography art." To further disguise the girlie magazines as art, the editors chose a very flowery, verbose and "arty" style for their copy, comically artificial and ridiculous to read today. And this is the style Crumb used in his copy, making fun of that ridiculous sytle of writing, but also challenging his readers by his own insights and selection of images. 

There are over 100 pages in the book, with the front and back covers of each comic (there are three) in color. The book is 8" x 11." We can NOT ship this book overseas because it weighs too much. We're sorry! Will be mailed the the States using Media Mail.
